Irish Community Care Manchester's allotment project is based on the community allotments at Tonbridge Road in Levenshulme. The project was established in 2015 and was originally aimed at over 50’s, but we now welcome anyone to get involved. The goal of the project is to reduce social isolation, to give an opportunity for volunteers to get fresh air and exercise, as well as to have a positive impact on mental health. The facilities on the allotment include a tool shed, poly tunnel, and ample space to grow fruit and vegetables.

 

The project originated from a Breakfast Club that we held at at St. Mary’s parish centre, Levenshulme. Service Users suggested that they would enjoy the challenge of maintaining an allotment and growing fresh fruit and vegetables.

Since then the we have developed our allotment and it houses a large, well-equipped meeting shed with tea and coffee making facilities.
